How to Increase Storage Space in Your Bedroom

No matter how many space you may have been able to edge into your bedroom, and no matter how open plan you may have designed it, there’s always a better way to squeeze stuff in. Come on, it’s science – perfection is hard to achieve.

Don’t worry, though – achieving perfection isn’t downright impossible. Whether you think it’s possible or not, we’ve got some handy tips that’ll definitely help you to take several steps closer to nailing your storage space. Read on to find out more.

1) Remove any clunky furniture

An armchair in the corner may be all the rage, but do you really use it? If not, it might be time to give it the chuck. More often than not, these large, standalone items are the ones that throw off the feel of your overall room, making it feel smaller. On top of that, you’re losing valuable unused space around their sides.

By getting rid of them, you won’t just free up valuable space. You’ll also notice how much cleaner, brighter and tidier your room looks.

2) Opt for a Wardrobe Wall

Unless you’re living in a Victorian mansion, it’s unlikely you’ve got the spare space kicking around to warrant a standalone wardrobe. And, although they’re usually pressed up against one of your walls, you’d be surprised the amount of space they consume.

Wardrobe walls are a great solution to keeping piles of clothes out of sight, but they also serve the function of transforming the look and feel of your room. Even the smallest of bedrooms can have elegance and style added to them with wardrobe walls, as long as you pick the right style for your overall theme.

3) Get a Smaller Bed

Although it might be tempting to have every night’s sleep feel like you’re in a hotel, it isn’t really necessary. And the truth is, a super king size bed isn’t going to guarantee a good night of rest.

Downsize your mattress and frame, and you could add up to a crazy 20 inches of additional space to your room. If that isn’t enough of a reason to do it, we don’t know what is.

4)  Add an Ottoman to Your Room

They’re fashionable, classy and pretty functional, too. Ottomans are a great addition to any bedroom, especially if you’re looking to add a little extra space to your room.

They’re a great use of space, as they double both as seating and storage. It’s a place to perch whilst you sort out your hair in the morning, and an area to stash any items unnecessarily littering your sides.

5) Invest in Self Storage

Okay, it’s not really an investment – in fact, self-storage can be incredibly affordable. If you’ve got too much stuff cluttering up your bedroom, but you’re not quite ready to part with it, self-storage is the perfect solution.
